When you are first beginning in the home staging business, the entire process can seem overwhelming.  For many people, the hardest part of the job is to walk into a large home, whether it is vacant or furnished, and find a way to make it look like everyone’s dream home.  No matter what type of house you have to stage, there is one tip that can help make the project easier.  You simply have to create a set of goals.

When you first walk into the home, take the time to envision it devoid of furniture and personal items.  Take a hard look at each room and understand what appeals to potential buyers and what might not.  If a room seems too small, make a note of it, your goal would then be to set up the room to maximize the space.  If the room has a desired feature, such as a fireplace, you will want to set a goal of creating a room that uses the feature as a sort of centerpiece.

Walk carefully through every room, taking note of all of the pros and cons from the point of view of the average home buyer.  When you have done this, you will want to sit down with the owner and discuss your goals for every room.  While the owner may be concerned primarily with attaining a certain price for the home in a certain amount of time, creating a more detailed set of goals and helping the owner to understand them can make your job much easier.

It is very important to ensure that you do not get overwhelmed by any project.  Keep your goals simple and effective.  It is not necessary to paint every room or to go out and purchase brand new furniture, and it can help to ensure that you have both financial and time goals in mind.  Create a plan that allows you to complete your job within these parameters and you will find it much easier.

Goal setting is simply crucial for home stagers.  Every project has a series of demands and restraints, and it is important to learn quickly how to meet them all.  Learning the ins and outs of any business takes time and practice, but when you are able to break each job down into smaller parts and details, you can learn the business much faster.
